Gusto Food is a small local cafe right on Angelo Street in South Perth. It has a quaint, classic cafe feel, nothing special decor, and always seems to be crowded. Before I say more, I have to say is that the staff are excellent. The service was quick, professional and courteous, and our food arrived extremely quickly. You can see for yourself in the pictures below that the presentation of the food is gorgeous.
I had the potato cake with salmon, poached egg, spinach, hollandaise sauce and avocado (above) while Steph had the Provincial, with spinach, mushrooms, tomato, avocado and poached egg (below). Steph had a latte, which had the appropriate level of foam, and I had T2 Sencha Green Tea, which was fantastic (though I have to admit I found it amusing that it comes in a teapot with an infuser, but they used a tea bag). As for the food, I felt that the flavour did not match the presentation, while all of the elements of the breakfast were arranged well, it lacked a necessary seasoning, and in the Provincial, the mushrooms were somewhat overpowering of the other more bland elements.
The food was moderately priced, the two mains, a latte and teapot coming to $45.20. On the other hand, I found that the cafe charging extra for things like decaf and extra milk on the side was a little rich.
In summation, a well located busy cafe, with great staff, and while the food is well presented, the flavour does not match and the cost for value ratio just doesn’t add up for me. Would I go back? Probably. Would I recommend it to others? With reservations.
My rating 2.5/5.
